Myrtle Beach Golf

If you love to golf, love to find discounts on golf, and love Myrtle Beach, then you probably already know that term Myrtle Beach Golf Packages originated here.

And golf packages are as prolific here as the number of challenging courses on the Grand Strand.

For golfers, Myrtle Beach usually means dreaming of an enjoyable golf vacation, anticipating several days of near-perfect shots. Even for non-golfers, it's hard to think of Myrtle Beach without thinking about all the golf courses that dot the landscape.

With over 100 well-tended courses along the Grand Strand, the variety of attractive discounts, and the beautiful year-round weather, it's easy to see why this area has become a favorite golf destination.

Golf vacations, or any type of visit to this area, is enhanced by touring some the area's finest courses.

Myrtle Beach Golf PackagesMany of the fairways are located in particularly scenic areas of the Carolinas and possess a beauty all their own.

You could probably spend your entire vacation exploring courses and never grow weary of their grace and majesty.

One of the most unique local courses is one simply known as The Witch. The course covers more than 500 acres between Conway and the southern Grand Strand, and is largely an island unto itself. It is located quite a distance from the busyness of hotels, houses, and development, so it is a perfect vacation escape. If you decide to tee off, you'll have to negotiate around more than 4,000 feet of bridgework extending over hundreds of acres of wetlands, considered Mother Nature's carefully-designed hazards. The Witch is the creation of Dan Marples, who designed Marsh Harbour, Oyster Bay, and the Pearl. The course is appropriate for players of all skill levels and backgrounds. Tees are divided into black, white, and orange, with the black boasting a yardage of 6702; the white, 6011; and the orange, 4812.

Equally enchanting is a course known as The Wizard. Some 1,000,000 cubic yards of dirt were moved to create the magical elevation changes in this course, which is considered a "must play" by many. Tees include championship, regular, senior, and ladies, with slopes ranging from 121 (ladies) to 100 (seniors).

For one of the nation's best courses, head to Arcadian Shores, which was named one of the best 100 courses in the country three years after it opened in 1974 as the jewel of the Hilton oceanfront resort. The course is the work of world-famous architect Rees Jones and is marked by alluring lakes, craftily-designed bunkers, fairways surrounded by trees and Tifton Bermuda greens. The course has received high marks from tournament players and top publications. Before starting play, you might want to test your skill on the driving range and large putting green. For some relaxation after the game, check out the clubhouse, with its Club Grill and well-stocked pro-shop. Arcadian Shores also boasts a custom club maker and the Arcadian Classic School.

While West Coast courses may get a great deal of publicity, the record clearly shows that this area is home to some of the best fairways in the U.S., as recognized by leading publications and lauded by top professional players.
